Kia ora Parents/Caregivers
The White Rabbit in Alice in Wonderland spends most of his time checking his clock to make sure he gets to the Queen of Hearts on time and is not late. During Term 3 we will also be channelling our inner White Rabbit. Long Bay Primary is participating in a new initiative led by the Ministry of Education to survey late students about why they are late. This data that we collect will be passed on to provide us with a big picture about Long Bay Primary’s lateness patterns. No names will be included with this data, just the reason for being late. If your child is unable to tell us why they are late we will be in touch to clarify with you the reason. The table we will be using is included below.
The start of the school day is a vital time for staff and students. It provides an opportunity for connections, calmness and everyone to start the day out on a positive note. Arriving late causes anxiety and can be unsettling. From the start of next term if your child is regularly late we will be in touch to see what we can do to assist and work together to reduce these instances.
Thank you for the work your children have put in this term. They have worked hard and this was reflected in their reports and the conversations you had with their teachers this week. The holiday break is perfect timing to break the current rash of illness that has struck us in the past fortnight. Hopefully it will act as a circuit breaker and we will all return healthy for the start of Term 3.
The teachers have worked hard for your children and I thank them for their work. They have been encouraged to turn off their alarms and ensure they have a well earned break as well.
Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Dum are definitely my two favourite Alice in Wonderland characters (I am sure they are always on time). They have a vast array of rather peculiar poems and songs and always seem to be enjoying themselves.
Have a safe and restful break and I look forward to seeing you at the start of Term 3.

Sports Buzz – Term 2, Week 10

Northern Bays Cross Country The Northern Bays Schools Cross Country was held last week in near perfect conditions. Competitors from 10 local schools turned up bristling with anticipation and nerves. Starts were fast and furious, and hard to maintain for most! Well done to our team, they gave it their best and can be very proud of their efforts.
The winning school on the day was Greenhithe who narrowly beat out the team from Coatesville. Many thanks to all those adults who came along to assist and cheer on our runners.
