Kia ora Parents/Caregivers
Sixth Form Certificate seemed to mean you stopped working at school in October and were left without much to do. I spent some of that time helping out Torbay School and their Waterwise programme. My Mum worked there and I am sure she was keen to keep me occupied. I roughly worked out how to sail during lunch breaks and think I only hit one moored object.
Zooming ahead a couple of years this week the Long Bay Primary staff took the opportunity to have our staff meeting down at Waiake Beach. We made use of the Waterwise equipment and were absolutely out of our comfort zones, be it sailing, kayaking or RIB driving there was an experience available for everyone.
Trying something new or different, providing a challenge, having fun and pushing boundaries is something we endeavour to do at school with your children. Having the same experience as teachers helps us to know just how it feels. A little bit apprehensive at first, then you get into the groove and you really desperately don’t want to embarrass yourself in front of others with a final sense of satisfaction at a job well done.
Walking in the shoes of our students helps us understand how they feel in a range of different ways. This opportunity did – even down to cleaning up afterwards as a group and waiting for the last item to be put away before we leave.
I am pleased to report that all moored objects were avoided this time.

A warm welcome to our new students who have started at Long Bay Primary since our last newsletter:
Zachary, Amea, Bolin and Alivia

|
For the first 5 weeks of the year we have had 75% of our students regularly attending school (they have been here 90% or more). This is a dip of 10% (or 50 children) in the last 2 weeks. The main reason for this decrease is families going on holiday. Please keep your children home if they are sick, if they are not, please ensure they come to school.
