It turns out that running a marathon is a lot like getting your school report. You spend a large amount of time planning and preparing. There is the selection of footwear, socks and running clothes. You need to consider the nutrition you will consume before, during and after – It is the fuel you need to get to the finish line, and one step beyond, no further. Then off you go, you start enthusiastically, things get tougher in the middle when you have to do all the work and finally you finish and feel a mixture of elation, relief and wondering when to do the next one.
School reports provide a finish to the year, however unlike a marathon there is no finish line. They provide a snapshot into life at school at that moment in time. All the hard work, effort, challenges and successes that make up the year finish off with a report.
The 2022 marathon is nearly over, and we have already started training for 2023. When your report comes home later in the year please take the time to read through it and discuss it with your child. The next steps provide the training plan for the year ahead, stick to them and the journey will be an easier and more successful one.
Going 42.2km seems like a long way, until you consider some people do ultramarathons – fancy trying 100km instead?

Another message we have been sharing is to take a breath, a moment to think about what you are going to say. It is very important that all members of our school community feel they have a voice, sometimes it is the way the voice comes across that can feel uncomfortable. We will always do our best to ensure everyone is heard, please help us by taking a moment before speaking to our staff members. No matter what happens we are here to listen, help and do. At the end of the day we all have the children at Long Bay Primary as our main focus and will do our best to ensure they have a successful time at school.

2023 Enrolment Applications
|
We are planning for 2023 and what things will look like at Long Bay Primary. As part of our planning the number of students that will be here is the most important piece of information we have.
If you have a child turning 5 during 2023, or know of anyone else who has a child and wants them to come to Long Bay Primary next year, please let the Office know as soon as possible. All in zone children are guaranteed a place. Please email enrolments@longbayprimary.ac.nz
Anyone who knows their child is leaving Long Bay Primary at the end of the year (and they are not in Year 6) we would value hearing about this as well. It helps with understanding how to balance our classes for next year.
Out of Zone Enrolments for 2023
We are not taking any out of zone enrolments for 2023 due to roll growth within our zone. If you move out of zone during the year and have a sibling due to start school in 2023 they are not automatically guaranteed a place at Long Bay Primary due to zoning regulations.

Active Transport Options
We are part of an Auckland Transport initiative over the next three weeks to use active transport to get to or from school. Given they have offered spot prizes and the possibility of a pizza lunch for the top class some students are highly motivated. Walking all the way home is not necessary. Dropping off or picking up close to school counts. The Ashley Reserve carpark would be an excellent place to park and walk.
Fun Run Prizes
Now we have contacted the last few families about prize selection. The prizes are being packed and are getting closer to being shipped to us. We expect they will be here by 11 November.
Hats and Water Bottles
A reminder that all students will need a hat for outside play for term 4 and a water bottle at school in these warmer months. Please name both items.
Absence/Late to School
If your child is going to be absent from school, please submit an absence form either via the website or app to let us know. Alternatively, you can email admin@longbayprimary.ac.nz or call 09 473 6077, option 2.
If your child is going to be late to school, they must call at the office window to collect a Late Pass before going to their classroom. This is to let us know that have safely arrived to school after the roll has been taken in the classroom.
Leaving School Early
If you need to collect your child prior to the school day ending, please sign them out at the office before collecting them from their classroom.

On Monday Room 15 and 16 went to Woodhill Forest to tackle the Tree Tops adventure. There was a lot of very excited conversation on the bus about how high everyone thought they would be able to climb. After a safety briefing and gearing up, everyone headed to the trees. Lots of concentration and a dip in conversation as everyone remembered how they attach to the ladders and get themselves safely up and into the trees. As the day went on, favourite circuits were discovered and squeals of delight could be heard every time someone shot down the zip line. Fears were conquered, smiles got wider and as our session drew to an end nobody wanted to leave. Super impressed by the encouragement room 15 gave to each other and a big shout out to our amazing parent helpers. We couldn’t have done it without you. What a fantastic trip!

We have had a very enjoyable day supporting I AM HOPE and Gumboot Friday. Many gumboots were thrown and the artistic ability of our students was in full force with our chalk art. Thanks to everyone who brought their boots along, and our local sponsor for making the day possible. We will be giving out trophies to our longest throwers at the assembly next Friday.

PTA Disco – Sparkle and Shine
After a long wait we are so excited to be bringing back the school disco and we are doing things slightly differently.
The disco’s are going to be a cashless event with parents able to purchase disco tickets and confectionary cards via kindo. These cards can be used to purchase snacks and disco accessories on the night.
We ask if parents can keep this an alcohol free event, however you are able to drop your child off if you wish, and collect them at the end of the night. Please drop off and collect your child up from the hall. Children will not be able to meet you at the drop off zone.
For entry on the night: Once you have purchased your child’s ticket and confectionary card via Kindo. Your child’s name and confectionary card will be at the door on the night.
Parents, if you are staying to watch your child, you do not need to purchase a ticket
Fundraising for the disco is supporting the Loose Part Lounges. We do require parent help for the evening, please email longbayprimaryPTA@gmail.com if you’re able to assist.
