UPDATE – School Production – Juke Box Drama
|
As we need to be at Level One to have a live audience for our production, and as the Bruce Mason Centre was changing its layout which reduces the number of backstage rooms, we have made the decision to cancel our booking. Those who had already purchased tickets should have received an email from Ticketmaster regarding a refund. Thank everyone who did buy a ticket for your support.
However, the show will go on in some other format and venue. We are looking at other options so the children all get to perform and celebrate their talent and hard work. We will let you know as soon as things are decided, as we do need to have an idea about the pandemic response before any dates or organisation is set.
Please encourage your child/children to keep practising during the lockdown time.

Kia ora koutou Long Bay Whanāu
We have now spent three and a half weeks at Alert Level 4, and it certainly is pleasing to see that the lockdown is having an impact by reducing the number of daily community cases. We will learn more about any changes in levels at the announcement on Monday 13 September. I will be back in touch after the Government announcement has been made, so do look out for that email.
At Level 4, please be aware that the school grounds continue to be closed to all. This is a Ministry of Health directive, in order to reduce the threat of spreading the virus. As no one should be on the school site, this means no playing on the adventure playground.
I thank you all for your support for each other and the school during the Alert Level Lockdowns. Please continue to encourage your child to attend their class online meetings and to complete home learning tasks. Whilst the learning is not the same as in the classroom, it is still really valuable and meeting with their teacher and classmates helps your child to be connected. There has been some wonderful student writing achieved at home, and it is also great to hear about the range of activities our students have been engaged in with their family members during this time.
I’d like to thank all of our staff for our collective toilet roll video – we really enjoyed putting that together for you all. A big thank you as well to Mark Wallace and Di Edgoose, and our wonderful students who are producing the kupu o te wiki and our Greeting each week. I so look forward to seeing these and thought this weeks words: whakaoti rapanga – to problem solve – fitted in really well! We are certainly all developing our resilience and creativity.
We are aware that every family situation is different. A good site to visit to read parenting tips during lockdown is the Parenting Place, on https://parentingplace.nz/
Our staff are all working hard behind the scenes, as are the School Board and the Long Bay Parent and Teacher Association (PTA), both of which held their meetings online this week. Please see the message from the Board further on in this newsletter, and the PTA section.
Lastly I’d like to share the result of the recent parent survey regarding what community members thought should be the next fundraising focus project for our school. Of the suggested choices, in order of the most popular to least was: 1. to build another playground, 2. a bike track, 3. shade over the existing playground, 4. a cover over the astro turf and 5. Fitness Circuit Equipment. This new playground project will take place in 2022, however the upcoming PTA raffle fundraiser will go towards this project. Thank you to everyone who provided their feedback.
I wish you all the best as the lockdown continues, and will be in touch again via email on Monday when more is known about level changes.

Message from the Long Bay School Board
|
|
The School Board wanted to take this opportunity to acknowledge the efforts of the entire school and wider school community during the latest lockdown. To all the staff at Long Bay School, we thank you for your efforts at keeping the children engaged and learning during this challenging time. To whanau and the wider community, thank you for your ongoing support of the school and the steps we are required to take to ensure we are all safe.
We also wanted to provide an update on the Principal appointment process. The job advert for the role closed on 6 September. We received a number of applications from excellent candidates, which is heartening. Long Bay Primary is a great school and it is nice to know that others want to join us. Over the next few weeks the Board will be working through the applications and the application process. As always, if you have any questions, or wish to contact the school board, please email us at botsec@longbayprimary.ac.nz
Many thanks

School Fun Run – This will still go ahead
The School Fun Run is the major fundraiser for the school and PTA this year and we would love for everyone to get behind it.
Please note that the Fun Run will still go ahead as we can be more flexible around group sizes. We will confirm the date once we know more about Alert Level changes.
If all children were fundraising online it would make such a difference. All profit is going to enhancing the environment for our students, and students collecting sponsors also get the chance to earn prizes.
