Kia Ora Parents/Caregivers
The Rainbows End Roller Coaster is an experience I managed to dodge for over 40 years quite happily. It wasn’t until it was just my son and I standing in front of it looking up and he needed company, that my long line of excuses ran out. We strapped ourselves in, I was more than slightly nervous, the carriage started moving and there was nothing I could do but go along for the ride. The wiggly bit is still a blur, however the end was the part I remember the most, after all the angst, excitement and a funny feeling in my stomach the rush at the end made it all worth it. Somehow I went again – to this day I am still not sure why.
2022 has been a roller coaster ride all in itself, and now we are heading towards the end, moving up the last incline before rushing down to the finish. Term 4 will go very quickly- and it is our goal to make it the most successful and enjoyable part of the year. We have a wide range of events, activities and trips lined up along with the day to day task of learning.
This is the first ‘proper’ Term 4 we have had for a couple of years. Our focus is on ending the year well and upholding the school values. To this end we will continue to reward students we see in the classrooms and playground, smothering those doing the right thing with praise. The plan is this will guide us calmly through to a successful conclusion to 2022.
The log flume ride is much more my cup of tea. Calm and sedate throughout, a couple of thrills and then a rush at the end as you let out a scream and get slightly wet. The intention is for 2023 to be much more like that. The only rush and splash at the end I am looking forward to next year will be a trip down the school water slide. I have heard plenty about it and am looking forward to putting my togs on and having a go myself. Bring it on.

Another message we have been sharing this week is to take a breath, a moment to think about what you are going to say. It is very important that all members of our school community feel they have a voice, sometimes it is the way the voice comes across that can feel uncomfortable. We will always do our best to ensure everyone is heard, please help us by taking a moment before speaking to our staff members. No matter what happens we are here to listen, help and do. At the end of the day we all have the children at Long Bay Primary as our main focus and will do our best to ensure they have a successful time at school.

2023 Enrolment Applications
|
We have begun casting our minds ahead to planning for 2023 and what things will look like at Long Bay Primary. As part of our planning the number of students that will be here is the most important piece of information we have.
If you have a child turning 5 during 2023, or know of anyone else who has a child and wants them to come to Long Bay Primary next year, please let the Office know as soon as possible. All in zone children are guaranteed a place. Please email enrolments@longbayprimary.ac.nz
Anyone who knows their child is leaving Long Bay Primary at the end of the year (and they are not in Year 6) we would value hearing about this as well. It helps with understanding how to balance our classes for next year.
Out of Zone Enrolments for 2023
We are not taking any out of zone enrolments for 2023 due to roll growth within our zone. If you move out of zone during the year and have a sibling due to start school in 2023 they are not automatically guaranteed a place at Long Bay Primary due to zoning regulations.

Active Transport Options
We are part of an Auckland Transport initiative over the next four weeks to use active transport to get to or from school. Given they have offered spot prizes and the possibility of a pizza lunch for the top class some students are highly motivated. Walking all the way home is not necessary. Dropping off or picking up close to school counts. The Ashley Reserve carpark would be an excellent place to park and walk.
Fun Run Prizes
Now we have contacted the last few families about prize selection. The prizes are being packed and are getting closer to being shipped to us. We expect they will be here by 11 November.
Hats and Water Bottles
Now that Term 4 is upon us, a reminder that all students will need a hat for outside play and water bottle at school in these warmer months.
Absence/Late to School
If your child is going to be absent from school, please submit an absence form either via the website or app to let us know. Alternatively, you can email admin@longbayprimary.ac.nz or call 09 473 6077, option 2.
If your child is going to be late to school, they must call at the office window to collect a Late Pass before going to their classroom. This is to let us know that have safely arrived to school after the roll has been taken in the classroom.
Leaving School Early
If you need to collect your child prior to the school day ending, please sign them out at the office before collecting them from their classroom.

We have been learning about native New Zealand animals, including kiwi, weta, tuatara, hector’s dolphin, blue penguin and archie’s frog. We used what we had learned about them to make models of their habitats.

My wife and I have made the decision to move to Wellington to be closer to our extended family so that my son, Bodhi can spend more time playing with his cousins and the extra babysitters help too. I’ll also be pursuing a dream role at the Wellington Phoenix Academy Football Club. It all happened so fast. I’m looking forward to the new challenge.
I couldn’t have asked for a more rewarding line of work seeing the smiles and enthusiasm on the children’s faces at Long Bay Primary. Every day of my almost 15 years with Kelly Club and Kelly Sports has been exciting, rewarding and varied. I’ve loved it all and have been lucky enough to watch these amazing Long Bay Primary students grow up to the fantastic little humans they are today.
I’m so lucky to have worked with two of the best Principals in the game in Linda and Rob. Not to mention a very dedicated and passionate John Underwood who cares for this school and students as if they were his own, doing so every day with a smile and laugh.
I’d like to thank all my fantastic, enthusiastic, and dedicated staff for whom I am so grateful for. Thank you to every parent, child, grandparent and teacher who has been involved in my time here in Kelly Club at Long Bay Primary School, being able to help people every day of my life and have fun doing so has been more than I could ask for.
I’m so happy with the bright future that will continue with Kelly Club Long Bay under the new ownership of Angela and Jhel. Angela and Jhel will be in touch directly with you to give a further introduction.
